City CouncilThe City of Ocean Shores is a non-charter, code city, organized under the Council / Manager form of government. There are five Council positions elected at large serving four-year terms that are staggered so that no more than three are up for election at any one time. Biennially, at the first meeting of the new Council, the members choose a chairman from among their number. The Chairman of the Council has the title of Mayor and presides at meetings of the Council. The Mayor is recognized as the head of the City for ceremonial purposes and by the Governor for purposes of military law, but has no regular administrative duties. The Council is a policy making body that creates the departments of the City, the offices of the City, the employment of City employees, and fixes their compensations. The Council selects a City Manager who serves as the Chief Administrative Officer of the City at the pleasure of the Council. The City Council meets the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 6:00 PM in the Convention Center.
